GoTheDistanceの由来

元々は、ディズニーのヘラクレスという映画の主題歌で、それを藤井フミヤが歌っているのを聞いたのがきっかけです。

GoTheDistanceっていい響きだなって。

初めて作ったブログのタイトルは｢No Pain, No Gain｣だった。そこからごにょごにょしてブログを閉鎖することにしたので、タイトルが同じじゃまずいと思って「Go The Distance」っていうブログを亞眼武櫓で始めて、2006年からはてダで半角スペース消したほうが良いと思って｢GoTheDistance｣になりました。

distanceというのは｢距離・離れた場所｣っていう意味の単語なんだけど、go the distanceで実はひとつのイディオムになっている。最後までやり抜けって言う意味で使われています。

僕自身はイディオムになっているのを後で知った。個人的には離れた場所っていうdistanceって言葉に定冠詞のtheが付くことで｢オレが行きたい場所・たどり着くべき場所」っていう意味合いが生まれるとこの歌を聴いたときにすごく思って、じゃそこに行くために今の自分があるから、Goが頭に付く。

だから、GoTheDistance。

たまーに由来を聞かれるので、ここに書いておきます。

ヒッキーにFINAL DISTANCEって歌があるらしいんだけど、多分それは「これを超えたら最後だよ、たどり着けるよ」って意味だと思う。
